After an uneventful five month period, Christine Venhuizen was back on her feet and took part in the 10km ‘Alkmaar City Run by Night’ race on 13th May.
She clocked 36.43 minutes to finish in 2nd place, in a race that saw a turn up of more than 3000 competitors.
“The race was at night and the weather was perfect,” said Christine who was happy with her performance. “I got a stitch during the warm up, but past the 5.5km mark I felt strong enough to finish.”
Christine had been recuperating after taking ill early this year. The Alkmaar race was the first race she took part in this year and having posted exemplary results, she feels braced for upcoming competitions.
Six year old Alyn Venhuizen, Christine’s daughter, won the 600 meter race at the same event. As other children her age were drifting off to bedtime stories, Alyn was at the starting line of what was going to be a highly competitive 4-6 years category race. At 7:50pm she sprung into a beautiful start and was sure to emerge victorious seconds later.
“I am so proud of her,” said an ecstatic Christine “she had promised to win the race as we drove here and she did it!’’ Alyn was excitedly cheering for her mum who was running later that night.
